hi guys,
so, the little presentation.
i'm arpinux, arnault, happy father, happy lover, and a GNU/Linux tester
i'm working on my old thinkpad R51 so my main goal is to find light distro with alternatives window managers that can run on old machine. i' ve tested many distro, from ubuntu to arch, debian to slitaz, slackware to pcbsd, and i've decided to make my own (as archbang in fact ...). so, i'm also the happy dev of livarp, a debian based distro with 7 sessions available (dwm, echinuswm, evilwm, wmfs, pekwm, wmaker and compiz-stand-alone).
some of you have tested livarp and post about it here, so i thought i have to come and say "hello, thx for support guys"
..
but as i'm here, i'll try to help if i can..
hope to give/find some good advices in archbang community.

Welcome to A! . . . Archbang and the AB Forums.

I am, also, a Debian user that likes 'light-weight' Window Managers.

I noticed that you do not have either Blackbox, Fluxbox, Openbox, IceWM or AwesomeWM on your list.
What made you choose the WM's that you are promoting and why?

And which WM do "you" use personally, on your own computer?

Acturally, I have followed your work on DeviantArt and Google+ for a while now.

hi vrkalak, glad to see you here .. i follow your work too

about wms:
-blackbox is in test'time on my computer and as soon as i could provide a cool setup and good support, i'll make a bb session in livarp
-i really like fluxbox (i've made a setup available on devart) and i'll probably make a livarp-xs release with it next year.
-about openbox, i think that i could not make better than archbang or crunchbang setup, so...
-i've never tested IceWM ... have to take a look...
-awesome is a very powerfull wm but i'm not used to lua so i can't provide support for it, and i don't want to put a wm if i can't help... as i'm the only dev/support/maintainer for livarp...

-the choice: first, they have to be light (to run on my old machine), then i try to put wm that you can't find in other distro by default. there are so many good dev in GNU/Linux world that i wanted to point out some very good wm, even if they're not as famous as gnome/kde/xfce (DE) or openbox/awesome/xmonad (wm) or others.

-my favorite wm : DWM !! the only wm that never crash on my system! i know that it's an 'old' tiling-wm, not as powerfull as awesome, not as easy to configure as wmfs. but i learn a lot patching dwm, and i'm a real tiling-addict !!

to finish with, i try to take care of the planet ... and when i saw that ubuntu and fedora couldn't run on my machine (too old), i decided to propose an alternative... as i don't want GNU/Linux distro to be as M$ or Apple© ... you kow what i mean ... "your computer is obsolete ... buy another one to run the last release...".
i know there are many light alternatives (archbang, crunchang, slitaz, puppy....) but all those distro are available with the same wm: openbox, fluxbox,lxde or xfce .. i wanted something different, so when i've made my first livecd (with remastersys ... before debian live-helper) i've decided to share it... that's how livarp story begins

What I think is very valuable about livarp is that you provide nice good looking working examples of these different wm's, and through the menus and set ups you give people the change to easily explore them and recognize their idiosyncrasies. That is a very valuable way of sharing your knowledge and experiments. I cannot praise that enough!

oh, but i already know how to install arch or derivate ... the only thing that i don't know about is howto create a livecd from archlinux

I'm still stuck with pacman not able t resolve some dependencies. I'll try the new iso when have some time and report back.
