add dmenu-xft if you want the greatest program starter in the world in the world: http://stillstup.blogspot.com/2010/05/d … fonts.html

I do not require a password to enter root or use cammands via sudo.
Not sure if I caused this or if it is a bug.
Really like the little touches from the
smiley during install to the conky tweaks to the addition of Adeskbar.
Just playing with my new install now.

-Simply because I had less issues with it than alsa (that wouldn't recognize my sound card properly anymore) but it seems it is not the case for everyone. Sorry about that.
-Indeed, alsa replaced OSS back in 2002 when it became proprietary software but in 2007, OSS became free software again.
-I could move back to alsa but each has its advantages that are well explained here ![]()

I am ecstatic to hear archbang 2011.09 is out! Keep up the good work. I love archbang, it's simplicity and its low content yet perfectly interactive open-box desktop. I love installing programs instead of uninstalling them and I love the fact that archbang provides me with a working arch-desktop so that the hours of console nitty-gritty (just to get a screen with the mouse working) is left out.
Thanks so much!

With a nvidia videocard you may be not so happy with the new livecd:
Just a blurred screen in the normal boot mode and a low resolution screen in the failsafe mode.
After install if you would do:
pacman -S nvidia nvidia-utils
you get:

Some more feedback.
- Use slimlock with a keybinding to lock the screen
- Why are application such as avahi or 7zip installed and why do they appear in the menu only after installation but not in the live session?
- Vattery only shows the percentage left on mouse hover but not the remaining time. Can this be changed?
- Why not providing patched fontconfig packages such as the ubuntu ones as they offer a very much better font rendering?
- A keyboard switcher such as fbxkb would be very nice.
- Is it possible to prevent windows getting under or over the adeskbar panel?
- Terminals opened via shortcut sometimes open in the background. Can this be changed?
- Typo mistake in manual regarding graphics driver installation 'f86-video-chips'.
- Install gtk-smooth-engine by default. Some applications require this engine.
- lxrandr is a mess for configuring dual monitoring and only good for screen resolution settings. But for this you wouldn't really need a GUI. Please provide arandr back.
- Show the weekday name in the adeskbar by default. That is it for now.
Regards
-I have not heard of slimlock before I'll check it out (I personally autologin on my pc & put slim just for others)
-Annoying shortcuts must be removed in /usr/share/applications
-You might want to ditch vattery for xfce4-power-manager
-You made me discover fontconfig-ubuntu package in the AUR ![]()
-A keyboard switcher could be handy I'll look into it (I should think of people who speak other languages thx). Meanwhile you can add in autostart "setxkbmap xx &" and you replace xx by the two letters that represent your country (for example ca (Canada), us (United States), fr (France), ru (Russia), etc.
-You're right about lxterminal being opened in the background, I haven't changed anything special in the config though (noted!)
-I'll fix the typo, include gtk-smooth-engine (for warning purposes)
-Showing the weekday by default (good idea)
-arandr, dmenu-xft & xcompmgr will be back (so small packages & loved by a bunch) ![]()

- By default chromium opens the downloads in the browser instead with thunar. How can this be changed?
I had to change this in Chrome settings
Trying to cater for everyone is really going to be difficult, Archbang should [and does!] include only the stuff you need... a terminal, browser and some basics config tools for openbox.
I used to run Pypanel ... then finally came over to tint2 ... not too sure about adeskbar is a bar of candy too far ![]()
My only suggestion would be to do a pre-release to iron this stuff out before final.

-It pulls 68.36 MB for libreoffice-writer w/ dependencies
-It pulls 70.11 MB for libreoffice-calc w/ dependencies
(both have many common depencies though but it's still too heavy)
compared to abiword which pulls less than 5 MB w/ depencies & 9.5MB for gnumeric

ArchBang Rules to start off with. I tried 2011-09 and under regular boot from live cd I ended up with a screen of colored lines, if I use the failsafe boot method it comes up fine. I did have some problems with the deskbar trying to tweak it to my taste, had to restart system several times as deskbar would disappear and not return unless I restarted.
I think I'll wait for 2011-10 to come out, give it a chance to shake some bugs loose. My system is rock solid as it is now, totally up to date so really no reason to switch really. I know I will sooner or later though.LOL
Thanks WillExtreme for an outstanding job & an outstanding distro.

another question, is the pptp-vpn connection is available on installed system? (i need it to connect to internet.)

-wicd is currently @ v1.7 but plans vpn support in v2.0 according to their FAQ
You could either ditch wicd for NM or create a postconnect script that will start the VPN service, and a post-disconnect script to bring down the service upon disconnect

Hi,
I"m really happy with this archbang distro and i think I've found a bug :
The sound is not working after waking up the computer (after Suspend).
Apparently it's a well known bug from OSS. (Alsa would work fine).
I still keep oss for the lower cpu footprint.

1st of all, hey thx for the new Archbang, GG
However, when I tried to install via "Copy To Ram" (new archbang i686), it would get to around 67% copied, and then it would just "freeze", I wasn't able to use keyboard, mouse ... ?
I can repeat the above installtion error several times.
Also, I tried a "Copy To Ram" install with an older ArchBang 2011.02(i686) and it worked ok.
sry, I don't have a 2nd PC to login and check logs, not sure if that would even work anyway, since the copy-to-ram fails during installation process.

Btw, this is a bug as this error is now reported by three people.
The problem seems to be that ext2 is not accepted as file system; when formatting is done to ext4 this problem is solved.

Would love it if you'd fix this problem: on other Linuxes and non Linux OSes, the key combination [alt]+[left arrow] is the same as hitting the back button; ALT+right arrow is the same as hitting the "forward" button. On archbang it used to switch me from one window to another (i preferred using alt tab and alt+shift+tab for that) but now it's doing nothing.
please make chromium work the way it usually does, or provide that as an easy option for customization

another bug to report about archbang: I attempted to boot it from liveUSB; i created the liveUSB using LiLi (linuxlive usb creator) and encountered the following:
the bootloader runs fine, and successfully loads the kernel. it attempts to load archbang and instead fails to find the file system image. It failed to load a graphical system and went to a working root terminal instead. It said something like "can't find /media/disk/by-label/201109_ARCH" (i forgot the exact path). The "by-label" folder did not exist at all. I created the by-label folder and navigated to the folder, and then created the 201109_ARCH file as a symlink to the actual location of my verbatim-brand USB-key (which was something like "../by-id/usb-verbatim-some-gibberish").
after doing so, I typed "exit" and the machine proceeded to boot archbang successfully.
It seems like a possible problem with the "LiLi" program but they claim that archbang version 201109 is supported. i don't own a cd drive so for me useable liveUSB's are a requirement.
orschiro -- i'm pretty sure the functionality i mentioned above happens without any extensions on windows, Ubuntu, Fedora, and OSX. I am not sure why the usual alt-tab//alt-shift-tab is not used in archbang where alt-leftarrow is used instead (which conflicts with the typical web browser response to alt-leftarrow).

I can't edit media tags in Thunar-media-tags-plugin.
Is it just me experiencing this bug?
Nope, confirmed here. Meanwhile, you can get easytag to do the job ![]()
I'll put that package on hold w/ slimlock-git & radiotray while they are buggy

Meanwhile, you can get easytag to do the job
or 'picard' which is a great mp3 tagger
Welly, welly, welly, welly, welly, welly, well. To what do I owe the extreme pleasure of this surprising visit?

Why don't you add it as a template to change it really straightforward?
@willxtreme, oliver
Yes, both are great! But when managing files/folders I like to have a quick look
