ArchBang Project Updates

ArchBang will now run with Artix repos for OpenRC packages. Current openrc/nosystemd repos will very soon be no longer supported.

Will be working with Artix to provide a mirror and hopefully package support.

Migration is certainly possible (follow link in my signature).. if you are not afraid of using a terminal.

Many users are worried about the use of lts kernel, you can of course still load stock arch 'linux' kernel if you so wish. Simply means you need to do a little more work to get it up and running.

Note Enable [core] arch repo and you can then install 'linux' kernel, of course you will have to update your chosen bootloader. I do know that Virtualbox will no longer run unless you load arch modules. Your mileage may vary.

For anyone who wishes to use arch in its pure form (systemd) ArchBang ships with Arch-Install-Scripts. Following Arch install guide https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Installation_guide

ArchBang is hosting a mirror for Artix, may not be as up to date as standard source forge ones. Hope to update on a more regular basis in the near future.

Re: ArchBang Project Updates

Have been watching some interesting threads on forums that have given me some very useful feedback. Notably the Gparted issue live which I never picked up on and was having problems figuring why it was not working (only installed). Turned out to be a locales issue. Artix handles it more the arch way locales.conf, have made changes to iso and installer so should be fixed now.

Do not get much feedback on Uefi booting, I cannot test very well on my old laptop so am relying on user feedback. Am pretty sure it will not work out of the box as I have made no changes to it.

Many users would like me to ship with three browsers, ten window managers, office suite and games... can honestly say DVD version of ArchBang is a very very long way off... wink

Re: ArchBang Project Updates

Have been thinking about new features and isos while on holiday in France. Think a systemd version (albeit very light) might be available soon. Am looking to release ArchBang autumn iso on my return, it will include Firefox browser once more.

Anyway I am going back in the pool......

Re: ArchBang Project Updates

Systemd version seems to be far more popular than OpenRC version.... at the moment.

Do know that updtes to Artix are starting to come through, though my system did not update correctly (something I am working on!)

Be aware that I do not make a living from producing ArchBang donations help pay for hosting and domain costs. Based on systemd version alone a euro/dollar a download would easily keep ArchBang running for another 5 years!!!

Re: ArchBang Project Updates

Have updated Artix Openrc and Systemd isos, minor change dropped rfkill (for now). Upstream Archlinux now ships rfkill in utils-linux package.

Off to test ArchLabs wink
