Re: ArchBang Spring Release March 2017

Thanks again. Is the DOC up to date?
I notice you don't mention details , like back to openbox and spacefm replaced by pcmanfm.

Re: ArchBang Spring Release March 2017

Great potential here!  This is my first post and I'm very new to ArchBang.  I've downloaded the spring release and I'd like to install it in VirtualBox with Arch Linux as host.  I can't find any installation instructions later than last spring.
I'm interested in distros based on Arch, especially ones that are simple so look forward to checking this one out.  I'm writing this from the Spring Release Live CD I'm using within VirtualBox, but want to install to get a better idea how ArchBang works.  I don't see any program for installing, so do we use CLI?  If so are steps similar as with Arch Linux?
Thanks for any assistance.

Hi Kendew,

To install use the following command in the terminal and follow the prompts. The instructions are located in the home folder in a text file called ArchBang_Guide

sudo abinstall

Mr Green

Thank you. And congratulations!

Have been working for over half a week with this Spring Edition (frugal install). And would like to say : almost perfect!

The only problem I encountered was not to be able to mount partitions on external usb-stick with 'pcmanfm' : they don't show. (Although I installed udisk2).

Enjoy your Sunday!

Re: ArchBang Spring Release March 2017

Not sure fully on pcmanfm support, spacefm would mount external drives out of the box. I personally use command line for mounting, know there are many options...

Might look at adding udevil, pmount is handy via command line.

Only reason I switched was the fact SpaceFM has gone into aur... not impossible to add but does create more work during iso build.

Re: ArchBang Spring Release March 2017

Maybe user groups setting has something to do it?

When i installed gvfs i made sure my user group had the "storage" setting added.

# gpasswd -a user group

Re: ArchBang Spring Release March 2017

Used to have may more groups set up out of the box, since systemd takes over everything took most of them away...

i think wheel is enough to get one started, good to learn these things for future reference. The arch wiki should always be consulted, along with an oracle if you have one wink

Tried twice but grub2 seems to have issues in the installer.

Grub Install:

1) Automatic
2) Manual
Enter your option: 1
Installing for i386-pc platform.
grub-install: error: install device isn't specified.
Generating grub configuration file ...
ERROR: mkdir /var/lock/dmraid
ERROR: mkdir /var/lock/dmraid
ERROR: mkdir /var/lock/dmraid
ERROR: mkdir /var/lock/dmraid
WARNING: Failed to connect to lvmetad. Falling back to device scanning.
Found memtest86+ image: /boot/memtest86+/memtest.bin
done
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Press enter to continue...

Nowhere does it ask for the device to install grub on. / is on sda1 and swap on /sda5.

EDIT:

Busy trying,

sudo mount /dev/sda1 /mnt
sudo arch-chroot /mnt
sudo grub-install --target=i386-pc /dev/sda
sudo grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg
exit
umount -R /mnt
reboot

(Will report back.) OK the chroot installation of grub got me up and running!

Re: ArchBang Spring Release March 2017

Starting to think there is an issue with Grub, going to test under VM then report back. Hopefully syslinux is ok, at least then you may have more of a chance to install and have a running system to work from. Be mindful that gpt devices are let say more complicated to set up.

Following your grub guide I got install working under Virtualbox, did have to load virtualbox-guest-utils to get xorg to work.... Going to check installer

Re: ArchBang Spring Release March 2017

Thanks for all the hard work Mr Green  !! Your the best !
Just wanted to let you know that this release, as well as several before them, has the same little problem on my MSI WS60J xeon laptop.
When i boot from the iso from usbstick, i have to set acpi=off and my internal keyboard still doesnt function at all....but since i dont seem to hear this complaint anywhere else, its probably a typical thingy for this lappy... :-(
Anyway, do keep on doing the great work  !
My most sincere compliments with your work !
