Better than?   Manjaro/Arch diffenent.  I like Arch - so much better Debian.   Arch 'simpicity' makes sense.

Re: Share your ArchBang Desktop Thread!

I ditched Openbox and GNOME for MATE today, the theme in use is Ambiance Cold + Aw0ken icons, and the wallpaper is 'The Pokemon Zodiac'.

I'm also, using LXDM for my display manager.

Wallpaper: http://arkeis-pokemon.deviantart.com/ar … -195437556

Screenshot_zps155ac09f.png

Also, replaced Archbey with Screenfetch, officially converting my Archbang install to Arch, and I reversed the button positioning, moving the close, minimize, and maximize buttons to the left, and the menu button to the right.

And enabled unredirect fullscreen rendering on Compton.

Re: Share your ArchBang Desktop Thread!

@vrkalak:

I like that fluxbox-theme. unfortunately I haven't played around with Fluxbox, since PCBSD,..., however,
and I apologize for going a bit off topic here, but,
I remeber that you also dabbled a bit with the *BSD's, and since you're an avid Fluxbox user, you might be interested to know that PCBSD is building a new DE/WM, from scratch.
It's called "Lumina", and the only reason I'm mentioning it, is because it will be based on Qt and Fluxbox only.

Re: Share your ArchBang Desktop Thread!

Always looks nice, fluxbox. And thanks for the info about Lumina.

I like this reasoning:

(4-d) Linux dependency bloat.
If you look at current DE dependency lists, it is easy to see that when you install a desktop, you might be getting a lot more than you bargained for (such as additional compilers/programming languages, network libraries/daemons, audio/video daemons/applications, etc). While there might be some debate on this, my opinion is that it comes from the Linux distro mentality. Just as a Linux distribution is the Linux kernel + the distro’s favorite packages, the desktop environment is becoming the graphical interface for the system + all the favorite applications/libraries of the developers, whether or not they are actually necessary for satisfying the actual purpose of a desktop environment.
I feel like the approach on BSD is quite different because the OS is a complete entity, independent of the packages that get added later, and simply provides the framework for the user to do whatever they want with system. By this same approach, a desktop environment should simply provide the graphical framework/interface for the user to easily interact with the system, independent of what applications are actually installed on the system. Now, I understand that at this point in time a user expects that certain types of applications are expected to be available out-of-box (such as a file manager, audio/video player, pdf viewer, text editor, photo viewer, etc..), but is that really the realm of the DE to decide what the defaults are, or should it be left to the distributor of the OS? I think a point can be made that the file manager is considered essential to integrate with the DE appropriately, but I think that things like audio/video applications, text editors, pdf viewers and such are really up to the preferences of the distributor, not the DE. The DE just needs to provide a simple framework to setup those initial default applications for the distributor, not require a ton of additional applications by default. Because of this, I am taking the approach that Lumina will have a very limited number of applications included by default (there are only about 2–3 that I can think of, all written from scratch for Lumina), and will try to include basic user-level functionality within these few applications to try and cover 90% of standard user needs (at a basic level) without any additional dependencies. For example, the Lumina file manager will have basic audio/video playing and image viewing capabilities built-in because those types of abilities are available through the Qt framework without many/any additional dependencies.

It isn't so different from what we are trying to realize in AB, a basic set up that keeps as much freedom of the user as possible but with just the few applications that fit in well.

Obmenu-generator schema.pl.  Systemd only I'm afraid.

# This options uses the default OpenBox action "Exit"
    {exit => ['Log Out', 'gnome-session-logout']},

    {item => ['systemctl reboot', 'Reboot', 'gnome-session-reboot']},
    {item => ['systemctl poweroff', 'Shutdown', 'gnome-session-halt']},

Believe you can even drop the systemctl and just use reboot and poweroff.

Re: Share your ArchBang Desktop Thread!

BOoTPKg.jpg?1
I was just going to make a profile image for myself -- a "line-axe", with just vector graphics. But then I got the idea of making something in blender, just something simple. And I just doodled away on a high-res surface in the sculpting mode.

I've just worked on it for some hours... doodling mostly, playing around with different tools.
So this might become a nice wallpaper for ArchBang later.

Oh, and it's the JWM window manager, and it's on my new notebook computer, so I haven't really made it look very nice yet. The theme should really be darker, and not much colors at all... perhaps blue... I don't know why I went with red-brown...

Edit:
Forgot to mention the obvious: I have two autohidden panels, which makes for a nice mouse/touchpad interface. Though I also enjoy some keybindings.
Keybinds can be most useful for doing things on selected text, like a link, and processing the link and starting wget, or youtube-dl.

Thanks, you know I was reading everywhere to research thoroughly before asking any questions and that's what I did. Took a long time but I figured everything out and I'm satisfied. I'm just glad archbang was here because I wanted to take that next step in linux but wasn't ready for an arch CLI install. So, many thanks to the team. I could never go back to any other distro.

Re: Share your ArchBang Desktop Thread!

V! on a Dell mini 910.  Fastest bang I've ever put on it.

Yeah, Void+openbox  is very fast and lightweight. I was really amazed when I first experienced it.
Nice screens..

Re: Share your ArchBang Desktop Thread!

Recently installed the ArchBang Lite edition.  I removed openbox and installed i3.  I am using floating windows.  The bar at the bottom is Lemonbar (first time I ever tried this bar).

I am using parts/pieces of Dylans setup.  I spend most of the time in a terminal and also Firefox.  I like playing OpenSpades and Minecraft when I'm not watching a movie or listening to music.

A small album I put together on Imgur.

Enjoy!
