Re: ArchBang ISO with JWM

At the moment JWM support is very beta, still working getting something more polished. Manjaro jwm is very good and has quite a few interesting features.

Re: ArchBang ISO with JWM

I installed the latest beta ios 1686 and I was pleasantly surprised by the simple set up of jwm.
Still missed some features of openbox and because I have  a good openbox set up backud up that is always less work than building that on jwm; so installed openbox.
I also found on this pentium 4 the window changing in jwm a bit buggy, some visual unrest.
About the installation on a dedicated partition with the abinstaller I have  2 remarks:
One is that with using the build in partition tool I got some error regarding superblocks;  an error which took me  some time to discover.
I only found out  by looking  with gparted at the installation.
Repeating the installating with pre partitoning  with gparted avoided this error.

Another problem was with installing grub2.
I did  a manual install with grub-install and got an error that I had forgotten to specify the device
#grub-install
It should have been
#grub-install /dev/sda
I couldn't redo it, couldn't go back to the installation menu  and I couldn't  set up user and root passwd.
Maybe it is better to set the bootloader as  last task?

Re: ArchBang ISO with JWM

Hi,

pablokal

- Same with me at grub point, but I restart the abinstall and only choose the last two points missing: set up user and root passwd, and it's working no problem!!

- Strange thing about JWM it not seeing the apps installed*, but usually I xfce4 all over the place... smile and I also have a backup of my old openbox configs.
* pacman -Qqe > package.list

- Is there a duckduckgo archbang to help the site?
maybe like this: (duckduckgo.com/?t=archbang&q=)...

- Best arch ever!!!

Re: ArchBang ISO with JWM

Do need to work on jwm to get it more like openbox. Window issue could be down to a config issue. Might be worth opening gparted from installer ( as an option). Generally installers are a pain to maintain, maybe we should look at one of gui ones currently available.

Jwm does not include a dynamic menu (yet) something i need to add at some point.

Re: ArchBang ISO with JWM

Take a look at

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xdg-menu

It is not dynamic, it does not update menu when you add applications but of course when run again or reloaded it does work.

Although wiki does not show jwm it will work wink

Just something I have not got around to adding.

Re: ArchBang ISO with JWM

Hi,

With xdgmenumaker I change the root menu of .jwmrc file:

<!-- The root menu. -->
    <RootMenu onroot="3">
        <Program label="Terminal">lxterminal</Program>
	<Program label="File Manager">spacefm</Program>
        <Program label="Web Browser">firefox</Program>
        <Program label="Editor">l3afpad</Program>
        <Separator/>
    <Menu label="Apps">
        <Apps label="Leave JWM" confirm="true"/>
        <Include>exec: xdgmenumaker -n -i -f jwm</Include>
    </Menu>
        <Separator/>
    <Menu label="Exit">
        <Exit label="Leave JWM" confirm="true"/>
        <Restart label="Restart JWM"/>
        <Program label="Refresh Menu">jwm -reload</Program>
        <Separator/>
        <Program label="Reboot">exec systemctl reboot</Program>
        <Program label="Shutdown">exec systemctl poweroff</Program>
    </Menu>
    </RootMenu>

It works but it is a aur thing!!

Re: ArchBang ISO with JWM

Thanks for the feedback.
Another problem in JWM was that the windows lose focus in a different way than in openbox.
I happened quite a few times I was typing in the wrong window because the window focus was lost; I believe that in jwm the mouse  is more determining in focusing a window than inOB.

Re: ArchBang ISO with JWM

My thoughts are to keep ArchBang openbox based and upcoming Alpine release based on Jwm. Will get something uploaded hopefully soon.
