(Solved) Double Directory at /home???

Hi All
This is not a real problem, more a puzzle. I have 2 Directories at /home, I have my own Dir, (/home/clive) and also (/home/ABlive).
All my files, including dot files appear in the ABlive Dir, while /home/clive holds dot files which are not updated after editing.
This is no big problem as I rarely notice the name change, it just puzzles me.
Any ideas what I did wrong.
Thanks in advance.

HI Mr Green
Thanks again for a very quick response. Until this morning due to laziness, I didn't have a separate /home, but have now rectified that, I also used mkdir and hid the /clive Dir inside leaving just the /ablive.
This seems to have had no ill effects on the running of my machine.
Having this /ablive as I said is not life threatening and can ignored, if however I can rename this to /home/clive it would make everything seem normal.
Thanks again

Re: (Solved) Double Directory at /home???

One thing to remember is that linux (and unix) go by UID and the name associated with it (clive or ABLive) is based on the mapping in /etc/passwd

I'd verify your entries in /etc/passwd

$ grep live /etc/passwd

Make sure your home dir as set there matches what you think it should be

Re: (Solved) Double Directory at /home???

Hi Oliver
Sorry I have not been back in touch but have been away from my computer for a week.
I have been able to rework my /etc/passwd file as directed, and I now have /home/clive
which is just the way it should be.
I will mark this post as now being solved and move on.
Where would I be without you guys.
Thanks Again
