How-to: Getting Broadcom BCM4309 wlan to finally work

Note:
- Specifically for those having the Broadcom Corporation BCM4309 802.11abg Wireless Network Controller [14e4:4324] (rev 03)
- b43-firmware -- ridiculously slow connection
- b43-firmware-legacy -- does not work

1) Install b43-firmware-classic from AUR

yaourt -S b43-firmware-classic

2) Edit broadcom-wl.conf

sudo your-text-editor /lib/modprobe.d/broadcom-wl.conf

    Remove the line blacklist b43

3) Create & edit b43.conf

sudo your-text-editor /etc/modules-load.d/b43.conf

In the empty file you've just created, just type b43

4) Reboot

I believe you have to rebuilt b43 every time you have a kernel update (never used it myself though).

Re: How-to: Getting Broadcom BCM4309 wlan to finally work

I was able to access wi-fi & install the firmware using a USB wlan adaptor.
I did a bit of Googling & found this.
Perhaps it might help you.

From the live CD

You seem to be able to get a working connection on the installation media, so here is one idea: Start the arch live CD and setup your network. Then mount your newly installed partition (for example on /mnt) and chroot into your system using

# arch-chroot /mnt

From there, you will be able to update pacman's database and install the desired packages. For broadcom, you will need to install from AUR:

# pacman -Syy base-devel
# pacman -S b43-fwcutter
# curl https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/b4/b … are.tar.gz | tar xzf -
# cd b43-firmware
# makepkg --asroot --install

Note: never use --asroot in normal situation.

Substitute the above with https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/b4/b … sic.tar.gz for b43-firmware-classic
or https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/b4/b … acy.tar.gz for b43-firmware-legacy
