Slim not waiting for login

I have been using archbang for a couple of years with i3 on a laptop. I have just installed archbang on a desktop system and have added i3 and slim. When booting up the slim login page show for about 2 seconds and then i3 is up and running. I have added a second user but it still logs in my primary automagically.

My simple .xinitrc
cat .xinitrc
#!/bin/bash

export DE=openbox

# Dbus fix
if [ -z "$DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS" ]; then
    eval "$(dbus-launch --sh-syntax --exit-with-session)"
fi

/usr/bin/xdg-user-dirs-update

# configure obmenu user
sed -i 's/live/'$(whoami)'/' ~/.config/obmenu-generator/schema.pl \
                             ~/.config/obmenu-generator/config.pl
synclient TouchPadOff=1
# feh /home/robert/Pictures/Annika.jpg
# start openbox
# /usr/bin/openbox-session > ~/.openbox_startup.log 2>&1
# start i3
/usr/bin/i3

My xsession
cat .xsession
#!/bin/sh

#
# ~/.xsession
#
# Executed by xdm/gdm/kdm at login
#

/bin/bash --login -i ~/.xinitrc

In addition slim does not activate the numlock and I have removed the # from slim.conf

Any help greatly appreciated and Merry Christmas to all

Re: Slim not waiting for login

I would consider using another display manager. Slim is not that compatible with systemd. According to wiki slim home page is down and is possibly abandoned. Maybe try ldxm.

Re: Slim not waiting for login

Merry Christmas and thank you for responding. I tried your suggestion using ldxm and didn't get anywhere so I tried lxdm :-) and that worked fine. I am sometimes dyslexic also.

There is another difference since changing to lxdm. At first logging in, I am presented with desktop #1 as usual but "super+enter does not start the terminal program. I have to use dmenu to get my terminal application.

A minor annoyance but worth noting.

Again thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Re: Slim not waiting for login

In the time honored tradition of answering oneself, I have added the xterm package and super+enter now brings up a terminal application.

Re: Slim not waiting for login

You will find that in config you have i3 sensible terminal which defaults too xterm. Simply change too terminal of your choice.....
