warning about VESA

Hi all,

Some of you may be aware that x no longer runs as root with xorg server 1.16. Well, VESA requires root access to work, meaning that it cannot now be used as the de-facto fallback, or forced during the booting of ISOs. At least not until an update to fix it (if that ever happens).

For now, the alternative options seem to be xf86-video-fbdev for playing with DKM (modesetting). I'll be testing these out myself tomorrow and will let you know what the score it (fingers crossed fbdev does the job!)

Re: warning about VESA

Have no easy way to test VESA out, arch wiki was not much help as it states VESA is fallback should all other drivers fail. We simply insert driver as an option, most of the time driver is selected automatically...well one would hope...

Re: warning about VESA

As promised, I tested out xf86-video-modesetting and xf86-video-fbdev. Both work. The general consensus of those far more knowledgeable than I am is that modesetting is the superior choice. Both produced a nice crisp and clear output.

Personally, I will not miss VESA.

Re: warning about VESA

Both are part of xorg-drivers group so we are shipping them with iso... have left in vesa option for rc-release iso but will remove it and see what happens
