Pleased to announce new ArchBang Openrc release [outdated]

Please wait for our coming new release This one is outdated!

Current x86_64 iso can be downloaded here:

ArchBang-Openrc Version

Iso:

openbox and lxde session selectable
openrc parallel boot enabled

Issues:
-installer is not working
-you can use pacstrap to install however 'pacstrap /mnt pacman openrc-sys'

Feedback: here

Note Pablokal:
Note: This is an experimental version only meant for those who are interested in finding out if and how Arch can work without sytemd.
If this doesn't mean anything for you, keep away from this and install the default Archbang iso

Re: Pleased to announce new ArchBang Openrc release [outdated]

Thanks Artoo for your work in all this.

Here's a brief feedback on a clean (non-virtual) install:
Openbox/lxde (openrc) both come up fine, needed to do a (sudo nm-applet) to bring up my wifi.

However, "abinstall" still craps out ?
Dialog box goes blank after first Install selection, which seems weird,

Re: Pleased to announce new ArchBang Openrc release [outdated]

nm-applet will work without sudo next iso.

abinstall is next on the list after proper localization.

I already changed some minor stuff in abinstall, it now formats the drive correctly, but I haven't looked at the install itself yet.
Currently, it fails to install anything.

I use this thread for problem discussion, to keep the announcement clean.

Next iso should be ready next days, but it will be pure lxde. Openbox session will be added later.

That sounds a lot like the language file is missing or corrupt.

Re: Pleased to announce new ArchBang Openrc release [outdated]

MrGreen, I will push next days abinstall to my forked git repo. I made couple of changes.
I managed t get the installation going.

The trouble was the install.log, which couldn't get created in /tmp.

I might pack the installer on next iso. I finished openbox and lxde session, nm-appelt problem is sorted out, thus, time for localization and installer.

Re: Pleased to announce new ArchBang Openrc release [outdated]

I uploaded new iso, build 20140506.

Lxde and openbox session enabled

netinstaller is not ready ti use, but on iso.
I currently experiment with zenity, and I don't like it much so far.

What is the opinion on a lxqt openrc iso?

Re: Pleased to announce new ArchBang Openrc release [outdated]

Not that keen on using lxqt, as for zenity maybe try gtkdialog or even xdialog... my own opinion is run installer with dialog to get it working then switch to a gui toolkit.

Once you are happy with this new release remove old one please....

I don't know what happened, but the upload was only displayed with 250 MB at SF.
I deleted this new iso and will upload new.

Re: Pleased to announce new ArchBang Openrc release [outdated]

No worries, mate, we'll get it sorted out.  take our time.

"lxqt" is not really here yet, nuthin against it, in fact I personally look forward to it,  but for now, a sinple Openbox standalone could also suffice.
In fact, I don't even care about the WM at this point, unless of course it makes it all easier to implement OpenRC.
That said, I just wish I could help you guys more with this newer archbang-openrc (net)installer,...

Ok, I just figured something out.

seriously, this may be comic-relief to some, but to me I have trouble with acronyms - (dyslexia in front of a screen).

And if you understand, then you understand I am also pleased as pink that we are doing cool shit like this. so far.
Good.

and keep up the great wotk ALL,

If this has to be explained, then sadly, we have all forgot how to have fun amongst oursleves,

big_smile

My old PC who died some years ago used to be announced in local net as r2d2.

In theory, the new iso supports most of european locales now.

Both sessions are enabled.

For autologin to work, live had to have a password with lightdm.

user:live
passwd:live

If you do in iso

sudo abinst

you can have a little previev of the installer interface.
Its very simple, and functionality is commented out.
It like a gui mainmenu demo.

Re: Pleased to announce new ArchBang Openrc release [outdated]

Btw, you can also build the iso yourself.

Custom packages come from archbang repos. wink

git clone https://github.com/udeved/archbang-openrc.git

You only need to adapt work_dir in build script eventually.

yes, repos' will make that easier, although it will be more of a (maintenance)burden for yourself, Mr. Green, ..., well in essence all of us.

I vote for a cron job, which executes aur build script, and transfers the packages to repos.

I'd like to get rid of maintaining aur packages from 3rd party maintainers.

The link in the OP downloads archbang-rc-2014.05.20-i686.iso from sourceforge.

Is that a typo?

Does the .iso now handle both architectures?

[edit:] I just noticed the size of 418MB so I guess its the x86_64 version. smile

Re: Pleased to announce new ArchBang Openrc release [outdated]

I've had a look at the contents (& checked it out live) of the .iso currently linked to in the OP & it is running systemd.

So there seems to have been a mix up with the .iso's.

[edit:] I found what I was looking for here:

Re: Pleased to announce new ArchBang Openrc release [outdated]

I personally won't give any date, saying, its finished when its finished.
Though, probably expect some iso in June, but without installer. Its a vague date, depending on qt5 and kf5 progress wink

Oh, you can build the iso anytime you want yourself from git, things are changing too fast to upload isos momentarily.

Re: Pleased to announce new ArchBang Openrc release [outdated]

If you are looking for i686, the gitsource supports building i686 now.

You can chose if dual, or $arch iso to build.
