Another NCMPCPP issue

I am trying to use box-drawing characters for my progressbar and they are not displayed at all.
I am using terminator

and if I try to use any of these

progressbar_look = "─░─"
progressbar_look = "─⊙╶"
progressbar_look = "◾◾◽"

Nothing is displayed. And if I use this

progressbar_look = "--|"

then it works. I am guessing this is something to do with ncmpcpp as If i try to copy and paste ◾, ░ them on terminator they are displayed fine.
But they do not apprear with ncmpcpp. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Another NCMPCPP issue

Hello again, ayushjsh.

I guess it's a matter of settings for terminal or xorg.
My urxvt seems to not show it, but lxterminal can.
I didn't modify .ncmpcpp/config additionally except the line: progressbar_look =

I don't have enough knowledge to explain you further information.
But I know you can do it anyway smile

urxvt fonts

Maybe posting your lxterminal.conf would help.

Know that you need to use .Xresources for configuring urxvt. Plenty of examples on the web to look at.

Re: Another NCMPCPP issue

Thank you Mr. Green!

I wonder why default lxterminal can display all types of multibyte characters.
What magic does it use?

1.
As for urxvt, I chose "Migu 1M" font for displaying Japanese-Chinese characters, and it works well except some symbols like heart mark ( just as above).
Does it mean that Migu does not have those characters?

2.
urxvt shows all marks and Japanese-Chinese characters when I chose "Droid" font.
(This is very strange for me. What mechanism is working for displaying Japanese characters?)

Unfortunately, it is not perfect because uncomfortable extra-spaces (width of 1 character, maybe) will be inserted.

Should I have to set multiple fonts on .Xresources?
All I can do is set each fonts for normal and bold.
I don't know how to configure it precisely for this problem.

This is from man urxvt;

URxvt.font: 9x15bold,\
            -misc-fixed-bold-r-normal--15-140-75-75-c-90-iso10646-1,\
            -misc-fixed-medium-r-normal--15-140-75-75-c-90-iso10646-1, \
            [codeset=JISX0208]xft:Kochi Gothic:antialias=false, \
            xft:Code2000:antialias=false

default entire lxterminal.conf

[general]
fontname=Monospace 10
selchars=-A-Za-z0-9,./?%&#:_
scrollback=1000
bgcolor=#000000000000
bgalpha=65535
fgcolor=#aaaaaaaaaaaa
disallowbold=false
cursorblinks=false
cursorunderline=false
audiblebell=false
tabpos=top
hidescrollbar=false
hidemenubar=false
hideclosebutton=false
disablef10=false
disablealt=false

and my .Xresources is here
http://speedy.sh/ftF4k/.Xresources

Yes, I shoud learn more about X...

Check your .mpdconf, it may work for you...

# Character Encoding ##########################################################
#
# If file or directory names do not display correctly for your locale then you
# may need to modify this setting.
#
filesystem_charset		"UTF-8"
#
# This setting controls the encoding that ID3v1 tags should be converted from.
#
#id3v1_encoding			"ISO-8859-1"
#
###############################################################################

Re: Another NCMPCPP issue

thanks guys for the info, I had looked into it before I asked and I has seen that editing Xresources was possibel to use these fonts in urxvt. I am not using urxvt so didnt go into editing that ,also I read that urxvt goes back to fallback fonts if it doesnt find the ones you specify.

As far as lxterminal goes, I never edited it in its configuration file , just always used preferences ( by right clicking, which essentially means that those settings were getting saved in the conf file ) anways like AxL posted his screenshot above I am also using similar fonts in my PS1 and that is when I switched to using terminator. It handled them fine via my bashrc file. But wouldnt show them in ncmpcpp

I am at work now but will post all configs when i get back home. Also will try putting utf8 in mpdconf ( i dont remember off hand if it is there or not )

Re: Another NCMPCPP issue

Sorry for my late reply ,
here is my lxterminal.conf

[general]
fontname=DejaVu Sans Mono 10
selchars=-A-Za-z0-9,./?%&#:_
scrollback=1000
bgcolor=#000000000000
bgalpha=65535
fgcolor=#aaaaaaaaaaaa
disallowbold=false
cursorblinks=true
cursorunderline=false
audiblebell=false
tabpos=top
hidescrollbar=false
hidemenubar=false
hideclosebutton=false
disablef10=false
disablealt=false

will try putting that utf8 in my mpdconf now and will post with results.

Re: Another NCMPCPP issue

I dont use Xresources as I am not using urxvt , and putting that utf8 in mpd did not help. I figured that already as special characters and all dont even show up properly in my lxterminal bash prompt but anyways I am unsure where the issue is. If you guys can help me sort this , it would be great. I can do systematic checks which you might suggest and help find the root of the cause.

my config for terminator is

[global_config]
  handle_size = 1
[keybindings]
[profiles]
  [[default]]
    use_system_font = False
    cursor_shape = ibeam
    foreground_color = "#00ff00"
    show_titlebar = False
    font = Ricty 10
    cursor_blink = False
[layouts]
  [[default]]
    [[[child1]]]
      type = Terminal
      parent = window0
    [[[window0]]]
      type = Window
      parent = ""
[plugins]

I tried Ricty font on lxterminal too but still no luck.
