google music manager help.. SOLVED

so im back on arch and am trying to set everything up.. so far everything is working.. except google music manager.. a program which i use alot well i tryed using packer to get the program.. but there was a problem with the build.. the md5 check some is wrong in the package build.. i know i can edit it and place the right one in there but i am unsure of how do do that using the $editor that they prompt me to use.. is there any way i can download the tarball from the aur and compile normally.. this is the frustrating part of arch.. but im trying to stick with it.. just need some help.. thanks guys...

Re: google music manager help.. SOLVED

If you don't want to get thrown in to vi when the advanced editor is called then look at the Arch Wiki on some ideas on how to force nano.   What I did was add the following line to my /etc/profile.

export VISUAL=/usr/bin/nano

I rebooted to take effect.

If you read the AUR user guidelines it recommends to download, edit manually, build and install.  For example:

$ mkdir ~/temp
$ cd ~/temp
$ wget https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/go/google-musicmanager/google-musicmanager.tar.gz
$ tar zxf google-musicmanager.tar.gz
$ cd google-musicmanager
$ nano PKGBUILD
$ sudo makepkg -s --asroot
$ ls #to see name of new package
$ sudo pacman -U google-musicmanager.______.pkg.tar.xz #update package name as appropriate

Thanks I will try that when I get back on the computer... I've never edited pkgbuilds before,,, don't really know what im doing when it comes to that

Re: google music manager help.. SOLVED

I have a request.  If it works, please mark the thread solved by editing the title from your initial post.  While you are at it, please change the title to something more descriptive (i.e., need help installing google-musicmanager from AUR) so it can be searched easier by others.  Thank you.

Re: google music manager help.. SOLVED

Install wget with pacman if you want to download by the command line.

It didn't work because you did not follow the instructions.  Read the AUR guidelines and my instructions.  You have a command wrong.

Re: google music manager help.. SOLVED

First, I apologize for my response last night.  I saw the first make and didn't notice you found the the makepkg error and had posted the output.  I did not have to change the md5sum and everything worked fine.

After building I noticed I now had a file google-musicmanager-beta-i386-1.0.55.7425_r0.deb which was downloaded by the during the package build.  I did a md5sum and got e60b0e132ad61acf88321caa08a1441d which matches what is in PKGBUILD.

You may want to try again in a new folder.  That way it downloads everything fesh.
