[solved] really dumb problem with window placement

I'm running 'make xconfig' to compile my own kernel but when I hit <ctrl>f to search for an object, the popup window opens up but half of it is above the top of my screen.  This means I can't move it or see the search box.

Is there a way I can drag it down so it's usable?  I don't want to go back to 'make nconfig' or 'make menuconfig'

Using something like devilspie seems overkill for this

Re: [solved] really dumb problem with window placement

I have actually had the same problem - sometimes a window gets stuck at the top of my screen and things go downhill from there. So far the only solution that I have found has been to right click the "title" that is on the menu bar so that the window closes. Then I reopen the window.

However, a window has never opened at the top of the screen for me - so far the search window has not caused any problems for me...

Re: [solved] really dumb problem with window placement

looks like openbox has support for window placement in rc.xml :-)

there's even a GUI front end app called obapps.  I just tried it - it works - so all is good again

try holding the alt key and dragging the window into a position that suits you

that was a nice simple solution :-)  Thanks!

amayatheworld - thanks for the idea too.  Both of these ideas seem more graceful than what I did
