What laptop; make, model, and hardware do you have running ArchBang? I'm hoping this thread will eventually be of some help to those thinking about running ArchBang on their laptop/netbook to make a decision as to whether to install AB or not.

HP Probook 6465b
AMD A6-3410MX CPU with Radeon HD6520G graphics
Archbang 2011.11 booted into X at the native 1366x768 resolution (with the vesa driver) but sound only worked when I selected the right card (the HDMI output was the default - I've since toggled this so the real audio card is the default)
The opensource radeon driver also works, but TBH, I can't really see any improvement over vesa (but my requirements are very basic)
I haven't tested wifi but the card is detected as wlan0 so I have no reason to think it won't work

Webcam and built-in microphone work with Skype, Google Voice, etc.
SD Card reader works, until the next reboot, if use use this command:
sudo sh -c "echo 1 > /sys/bus/pci/rescan"The multimedia keys and such seem to all work okay.
Headphone jack works.
The wireless (iwlagn) and wired networking works without any hacking.
Trackpad works (vertical scrolling, no multituch) if you add:
options psmouse proto=impsto /etc/modprobe.conf

New(er) Nvidia-based Laptops:
I realize this is a thread for laptop's that work with Archbang, but
here is something to "watch" out for if your looking to buy a new(er) Laptop.
Try to avoid this so-called "Nvidia Optimus" Technology for this reason, for now, (atleast 'till / IF ? nvidia provides a proper Linux solution) :
http://www.aigarius.com/blog/2011/05/24 … imus-fail/
(I'm well aware of Bumblebee rev.-eng project, but it is far from ready for the big times yet, ...)
Laptops with nvidia "Optimus Technology" are like, of course the cheaper, 555M, 540M or 330M are some example chipsets that I found.
And, Laptops with a "real" nvidia (chipset), like 360M, 460M, 560M, 580M, 585M are some good examples of NON-nvidia-optimus alternatives, that let you run nvidia, in Linux, the way it was meant to be run.
Choice is yours'.
btw: I don't condone, or support the above, neither am I against it,
I'm just trying to say, as we all know, if your next "new" Laptop is gonna be an nvidia-based Laptop,..., then do your homework thoroughly, before your spend your hard-earned $$$,
so that you'll be happy thoroughly, hardware-wise, in the long run.
Just a head's up.

I grabbed the hard drive from the previously mentioned Presario (which monitor died, was using an external display). Everything worked. The only thing I needed to adjust was the screen resolution! DELL Latitude C640 works fine. PCLINUXOS, as nice as it is, couldn't handle the Antheros chip set on wireless. ArchBang worked out of the box. I installed ArchBang as something to do, not intending to keep. Months later still on and is very stable, no crashes and the wireless stays connected. It was a little bit of a challenge on suspend, but it seems to work now, just had to read the ARCH forums on the various permutations to try on settings.

Asus EEE PC 1215P Intel® Atom™ N570 dual core and 4 threads. The 1.66 GHz processor is actually an Intel 64 running as a 32 bit (it runs both). If the RAM is only up to 2GB then it runs as a 32-bit as in the Asus.
Secret to running Arch in this series is CPU scaling. The Arch kernel is set by default to performance and Asus needs to be set to ondemand to stop the kernel panics. I recommend adding cpufrequtils, acpid, cpufreqd, cpuspeed, jupiter and jupiter-support-eee packages .
# packer -S cpufrequtils acpid cpufreqd cpuspeed jupiter jupiter-support-eeeJupiter gives you an icon in the tray to change cpu performance and screen resolution.
Then add the driver and governors you want to MODULES in /etc/rc.conf
MODULES=(acpi-cpufreq cpufreq_ondemand cpufreq_powersave)Then set the governor for the four processors:
# for i in 0 1 2 3; do cpufreq-set -c $i -g ondemand; doneThe frequency needs to be set to max of 1.67GHz and minimum of 1.0GHz (1000 MHz) and governor set to ondemand in /etc/conf.d/cpufreq.
#configuration for cpufreq control
# valid governors:
# ondemand, performance, powersave,
# conservative, userspace
governor="ondemand"
# limit frequency range (optional)
# valid suffixes: Hz, kHz (default), MHz, GHz, THz
min_freq="1.00GHz"
max_freq="1.67GHz"
# use freq to set up the exact cpu frequency using it with userspace governor
#freq=cpufreq needs to be added to the DAEMONS line in /etc/rc.conf to automagically start.
DAEMONS=(dbus networkmanager !network !dhcdbd syslog-ng @alsa @cpufreq)Your CPU should run for the most part at 1000 MHz and stay under 50C. While this might not be optimum for gaming, you won't run into random kernel panics and Arch will run smoothly. You may also want to run Con's linux-atom-ck kernel instead of the vanilla Arch kernel.

the only time I have for the Wiki now is to get rid of spam as 'Santa' didn't provide any help sad.
I can only recommend to let it go.
And do as I proposed: link to another wiki, that is guarded.

I just setup an easy to use laptop for my fiancee. Its a dell b130. intel centrino, 512MB. everything works fine on it. its runing 3.1.8-1-arch. some things were a hassle to setup on it though and that doesnt include the wireless driver i posted about, thank you all very much once again for your help.
I started out as a bozo, but, now im a tester of sorts, I use arch and debian.

Just received my new ThinkPad 13" Ultra-Thin Laptop yesterday.
Had to open Windows-7 for a few minutes, to make a System Restore Disk for it and to shrink the partitions.
Put my 2 favorite OS-distros on it: Crunchbang (Debian/Openbox) and Archbang (Arch/Fluxbox)

Hi all,
I'm running ab on my Asus 1015px everything works out of the box. Only do keep in mind that the native resolution of the screen is 1024x600 and when you do not install ab using Xorg autodetect your screen resolution will be fixed at 800x600. Overall I'm very happy with my little netbook which I only use for school. I also upgraded the netbook a little with 2 GB ram and an OCZ agility 3. Its just awesome to see the reaction of other students with more expensive laptops running windows when they see the performance I get with my cheap netbook running ab.
Also a special thanks to ArchVortex for his post installation instructions which have helped me a lot regarding the pacman key issue. I will be trying his optimized kernel for the Asus netbook when I feel confident enough since I'm still a newbie.

Hi Archbangers;
I've got archbang running on an Acer AspireOne Netbook. It has the Dual Core Intell Atom 1.66ghz. processor, 2gb. of DDR3 Memory 320gb. HD. Only problems I had was with Broadcom BCM 4313 wireless, after a little work and a lot of praying everything is running great.
I left archbang for a couple of months, actually right after Pacman 4. I just couldn't get it to update or install any software, I was using Fedora then moved to Sabayon. I'm back with Archbang and loving it, hope to never leave again.
Thanks.

^ I am running AB on a Packard-Bell dot sc, virtually the same stuff under the hood, but different hood ![]()
All worked well, but I think I had to download and manually (pacman -U) install the firmware for the BCM4313.
Waiting for someone to get the drivers for the gma3600 up and running for linux, so I can take advantage of 2D and 3D acceleration and the cards video decoding capabilities.

I am running an old Acer Aspire 5315. Worked out of the box, including BCM4312 wireless. Best spin of Arch I have seen yet...quick install, went right to work. Hardware profile is:

Much like the 1215P (http://bbs.archbang.org/viewtopic.php?pid=9153#p9153),
but in addition you need bumblebee Nvidia Optimus drivers (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?O=0&K=bumblebee).
I also had to uninstall "libvdpau", because viewing a flash site would turn on the Nvidia GPU, with very negative effects on system temperature and CPU.
Unfortunately mplayer depends on libvdpau but for now I'm content with using VLC instead.

Worked out of the box, even broadcom wifi.
The only problem was with isight webcamera. Configured right, passed "mplayer tv:// -tv driver=v4l2:width=320:height=240:device=/dev/video0 -fps 30" test, but failed in skype, with a black screen. The solution/workaround was to create a script-launcher for skype:
#!/bin/sh
export LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so
skype &
The workaround applies in a number of other webcameras with the same problem. Well configured but failed in skype.
inxi, wonder how it compares to hardinfo
"inxi is a command line system information script. The code base was forked from infobash. All code has been reworked and put into functions. Then, as requested by users, more information was made available as additional functions. inxi is useful to system admins for identifying hardware on remote system, it is useful for desktop users, but is most helpful in irc when support services would like to know customers hardware for troubleshooting issues."
from inxi wiki
Lightweight with no dependencies (all commands preinstalled with the system)
"HardInfo can gather information about your system's hardware and operating system, perform benchmarks, and generate printable reports either in HTML or in plain text formats." from here.
Shiny with buttons and icons, needs gtk2 and libsoup.

Dell Precision M90:
I got it "used" and cheap, but well worth it, considering the built-in Nvidia Quadro FX-2500M <- ( NO "nouveau" needed here, and NO "Nvidia-Optimess" ! ) ![]()
Note!: Originally, it had the crappy BCM4311-(Dell 1490) wi-fi mini-card, and "Broadcom"-wireless is garbage as most of you know.
Anyway, I replaced that with the below "Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205" wi-fi, and of course now everything just works OOB with any Linux/BSD distro, anytime, anywhere, ...![]()

[EDIT]:
I built an archbang from scratch, using an "archlinux-2012.12.01-dual.iso" netinstall image.
Everything worked great OOB, (audio/video, wireless, webcam, ...), except for the "xf86-video-ati" Xorg driver. ?
However, Xorg's VESA (with nomodeset) works fine, but even better, the (latest) ATI-Catalyst driver from [community] repo, worked real good now.
...and hopefully, AMD keeps this up, for Linux.
I'm glad about this, because unfortunately these days, for any 3D/Gaming, ... , "Nvidia Optimus and/or IntelHD" is just plain shite, on Linux, still !, on any notebook. ![]()

I use a Thinkpad T400 with 1GB DDR3 RAM, Intel HD 4500. The SMPlayer video playback caused the GPU to hang, solution was to choose the x11 video driver instead of xv. Two-Finger-Scrolling works OOTB, I got adapted to the rest and wrote my own scripts around a few issues. Installed pm-suspend and oblogout and a few Arch tweaks, works very smooth now. Can't think about a serious hardware issue.
