Made the jump

Received my new SSD and decided it was time to move onto Arch. On my last installed I thought I was spending more time removing packages from bang that I didn't use then it would take me to install Arch. Well I was wrong in that aspect but I have it fully working now. Took me the better part of this morning. I don't think I could have done it if not from my learnings while using bang. (I know learnings isn't a real word). So thanks for making such a great distro and having such a user friendly forum for me to learn from.

Re: Made the jump

I can only surmise, that archbang is even faster on bootup, and other things now, with your SSD.
But ya, I agree, it is a great disto -when all's said and done.
In fact, archbang is more of a "Bistro" than a "Distro"
smile

The "BSD" things in life are "Free", and "Open", and so is ArchBang!

Re: Made the jump

Boot time is insanely quick. I did get to learn a great deal more in doing a "real" Arch install though. That's all I wanted to do.

Re: Made the jump

Doug, I'm very happy to hear you successfully installed Arch. I personally think it is important for anyone user of ArchBang to do a successful install of Arch to contribute to the learning and understanding process of how Arch works. Hope you stick around here on the Forum and continue to contribute here!!

GUI's?? We don't need no stinkin' GUI's!!!

Re: Made the jump

I will. Installing "Arch" was very good for a learning experience but it is basically the same setup that I used on while on bang. Though if ArchBang could incorporate the "net install" it would be pretty dang awesome. It was nice to finish install and pacman -Syyu was empty. smile

Re: Made the jump

I can't solve libpng issue in no way. And installed vanilla Arch + Openbox (2011.08 Net Install ISO).
No updates after installation, no unwanted packages. smile
ArchBang taught me Arch. If ArchBang wasn't exist, i can't learned Arch.
Thanks to Will for ArchBang + Arch/Openbox install instuctions on your blog.
Thanks to Mr Green, ArchVortex & pablokal for helped me.
