Elegance -- Yet another Arch spin-off

Anybody seen this yet? Just saw it on the Arch-based distros page on the ArchWiki. Looks like they're using a lot of the same programs as AB.

"This is an alpha version (download) so expect errors. This spin-off is highly influenced by the good fellow over at archbang. It comes with a very minimal setup, a sample of the programs included are the following:

Window-Manager: Openbox
Panel: tint2
File Manager: pcmanfm
Browser: Firefox
Instant Messenger: Pidgin
Terminal: lxTerminal
Editor: Leafpad
Programming: Scite
Image Viewer: gpicview
Media: DeadBeef, Mplayer
PDF-Viwer: Evince
System: Network-Manager, Gparted, Yaourt"

Downloading tonight to have a look tomorrow maybe. I find it quite annoying that all these Arch spin-offs are sprouting up since the massive invasion of Ubuntu users. We really don't need a bazillion Arch derivatives with nothing more than a theme change like a large portion of Ubuntu derivatives. At least Bridge was an original idea at the time...

I don't see what the problem is with there being lots of Arch spin-offs? It allows people to express their creativity/freedom of choice. Those that are popular will survive those that aren't will disappear. Just like any other distro (or anything else) really.

As far as the reason for this happening being due to ex-Ubuntu users... I don't see that as being a bad thing either as it just goes to show that Ubuntu is a great introduction to Linux & as people learn more about Linux many of them move onto other distros, whether they started with Ubuntu, Fedora or whatever. What's the problem with that?

The most important thing we have is freedom of choice, I think it should be strengthened everywhere it possibly can be. (With the usual caveats of course.)

I'm not against freedom at all, Arch is great and that's why all these spin-offs are being created, I just don't want to see Arch become like Ubuntu.

I expect you know that I wasn't having a shot at you.

I really think that there are a variety of fundamental differences between Arch & Ubuntu that would stop Arch from ever becoming like Ubuntu.

Ubuntu is (not only) for new Linux users & Arch is for intermediate Linux users who as you know very well, have to be prepared to do some extra learning & get their hands a little dirty in config files & such. Also, Canonical has an agenda that is very different to that of the Arch team.

It is stated on the Arch wiki that Arch is not going to change to become more popular as that is not what Arch is about. I think that as more people start to use Linux (usually taking their initial steps into Linux via Ubuntu) other distros eventually get more users as the new users learn more & this is one of those things that snowballs. blah, blah, blah ...

I didn't know it was so old, didn't scroll far enough to see the dates on the comments. Seriously, who doesn't put the date at the top of the article?
