[SOLVED] openbox versus virtualbox 5.0.22-1

I run a slim+openbox; after a recent upgrade I encountered problems with virtualbox 5.0.22-1 see arch forum thread here. Basically I cannot see the minitoolbar in fullscreen mode. If I start xfce4 instead of openbox I do get to see the minitoolbar. So it seems the problem lies with openbox. Since archbang is a nest of openbox users I'm asking here to see if anyone else has this problem and if there's any way forward in respect of attempting to debug the issue.
Edit: this is fixed in virtualbox 5.1.0-1

You need to disable minibar in virtual system settings,  [look under User Interface] that will allow you to run fullscreen again. I had the problem with i3....

Hi Mr Green,

problem is not that I cannot do fullscreen, problem is just that the mini toolbar becomes invisible in fullscreen in this version of vritualbox.

Just wondering if it is a graphics toolkit issue, have you tried downgrading Virtualbox to check it still works.

yes downgrade of Virtualbox brings back the mini toolbar. Also with Virtualbox 5.0.22-1 I find that starting up xfce4 from my xinitrc allows the mini toolbar to be seen again. In that case the difference is just openbox. In case it was my startup that caused the issue I used an absolutely standard openbox startup and that made no difference.

Re: [SOLVED] openbox versus virtualbox 5.0.22-1

I fired up Openbox and had exactly the same issue, fullscreen works but no minibar (despite being enabled), back in i3 no minibar and blank screen. By accident I dragged blank screen and saw lxdm log in under it...

window list

wmctrl -l
0x00800004 0 archbang mrgreen@archbang:~
0x00a00017 2 archbang Oracle VM VirtualBox Manager
0x01e0001f 1 archbang ubuntu - Get a list of open windows in Linux - Super User - Mozilla Firefox
0x00c0015a 2 archbang VirtualBox
0x00c00148 2 archbang ArchBang Openrc (Snapshot 1) [Running] - Oracle VM VirtualBox

Openbox sometimes needs dbus-launch and ck-session (depending on init used) [[[stabbing in the dark]]]

Re: [SOLVED] openbox versus virtualbox 5.0.22-1

This is happening on a systemd machine so I don't think it can be a permissions issue and the previous version of virtualbox does work with the same setup. The slim & Xorg logs show no errors .I see a flash of the mini toolbar as the VM starts up (eg thin line at the screen top), but it vanishes and cannot be recovered. I think the mini-toolbar is still there underneath the VM screen and cannot receive events.

Would it be worth making a bug report? I have had to run without minibar for quite sometime now under i3.

Re: [SOLVED] openbox versus virtualbox 5.0.22-1

Hi Mr Green, yes I have put in a bug report. The hostkey + home does get me a menu item in openbox style almost smile, but I am sure that's just an additional way to control a fullscreen host; in 5.0.20-1 I see both the mini toolbar and the hostkey+home menu.
