Little addition too ArchBang in next beta version...

Want to try Openrc? Tired of Systemd?

Simply uncomment repo in pacman.conf and then follow guide on http://systemd-free.org/install.php

When you get too step 7, check your list of services under systemd, mine looks like this

colord.service #not sure about this one!
dbus.service
lxdm.service
NetworkManager.service
org.cups.cupsd.service
polkit.service
systemd-journald.service # ignore
systemd-logind.service # ignore
systemd-udevd.service # ignore we are using eudev now
user@1000.service # ignore
wpa_supplicant.service # if you carry on with networkmanager load openrc version it should handle this....

Am running openrc under arch under a VM at the moment, please any questions comments then post here...

Re: Little addition too ArchBang in next beta version...

Hi Mr Green,
I tried the 'openrc AB' live and it works good so far...
Just when I try to shutdown direct from switcher, as I could do with AB, I get a notify about a missing systemd service.
Can I fix it lather if I install? I can also try on wm...

Re: Little addition too ArchBang in next beta version...

It may well be that openbox menu is set for systemd... Am afraid power options need sudo at the moment. So either run for example sudo poweroff in a terminal or edit menu.xml. If go with say oblogout there may be a systemd version in repo...

Hope that helps;)

Re: Little addition too ArchBang in next beta version...

Made an install on my laptop with the new iso.
Maybe is there a little problem with locale setting?
I think Timezone and locale setting from installer to machine goes not proper but it is also possible that I don't understand the setting with open-rc.
Time is ok after manual setting also after reboot.
For keyboard setting I had to work on autostart.
Maybe it is right so...
Also get some trouble with networks in the last times (could not retrive a wi-fi adress) and this either with open-rc  as with systemd distro. Maybe an update issue ?
Till now no other problem and I have fun!

P.S. 'sudo poweroff' in rc.xml works good

Re: Little addition too ArchBang in next beta version...

Timezone and locale may not work as they should.... (will check installer)

Keyboard well setting it in autostart is the best option for a single user or you could try /etc/X11/ and add too keyboard config file.

'sudo poweroff' is not the best idea but user permissions do not seem to work regarding power. (despite user being part of power group)

Still working on OpenRC version, not had too much feedback on forums but iso downloads are very high (i686).

Re: Little addition too ArchBang in next beta version...

Think Manjaro uses /etc/openrc, guessing it is to keep config files separate from /etc ones. This might be useful if a user decides to switch back to systemd. For now I am running with packages provided by http://systemd-free.org/

Poweroff off might be down to user permissions it is something I have not really looked into (using sudo does the trick)

Re: Little addition too ArchBang in next beta version...

OK.
'sudo poweroff' works good without asking for password.

What do you mean wy the automatic connection to known accounts does not work?
NM finds the acconts but I have to connect manually.

Re: Little addition too ArchBang in next beta version...

Update, could not get NM running so am using wpa_supplicant. Fairly easy to set up just follow instructions in Arch Wiki. Then I started dchp server and now I have a working wireless connection.

Basically setup a default config file with wpa_passphrase... start wpa_supplicant (rc-update add wpa_supplicant default)... Will look at starting dhcp server (maybe via local.d

This is just a workaround until I can fix NM

Re: Little addition too ArchBang in next beta version...

Reading this article does help (thanks artoo)

https://fitzcarraldoblog.wordpress.com/tag/openrc/

In my case I was able to simply restart NetworkManager and get it running using:

sudo /etc/init.d/NetworkManager restart

Re: Little addition too ArchBang in next beta version...

I have switched to Openrc and nm is not working for me. I get no output from that command. Am looking into fixing issues raised. Need to get summer release out first.
