gtk free

It seems really odd that I cannot get a system running which is either gtk2 or gtk3 free. For example firefox requires both gtk2/3, midori can be gtk3 or you can get gtk2 version which requires gcr, only gcr needs gtk3 roll

If I go gtk3 free I lose spacefm, networkmanager volumeicon

If I go gtk2 free I lose lxterminal (although there is a gtk3 version) geany, gparted, obconf, tint2 etc....

At this rate I may forget the whole thing and go cli wink

Re: gtk free

Well have found volwheel which is gtk2 .... Can live without network manager as arch ships with wifi-setup script (for now)

Re: gtk free

From your list it seems like losing GTK2 would be a bigger change to the AB look and feel (although I guess if you went to AUR you could use one the tint3 variations (tint3-cpp-git seems closest)

Re: gtk free

It might easier to remove gtk3 than 2. A tint2 replacement might be required, tint3 maybe.

Would lose (for now!) spacefm and Firefox.. This will happen in beta release as well as some installer fixes.

Re: gtk free

Actually tint2 depends only on glib, not GTK. It is just the configuration GUI tint2conf that introduces the GTK2 dependency. It can be disabled at compile time.

Re: gtk free

Want to try to avoid custom or aur packages at this point, testing builds with gtk2 only for now. Still might worth looking at tint2 should I go gtk3 route.

In that case, is tint2conf *needed* on a live image?

Re: gtk free

Sounds good, did not want to lose tint2. My only problem will be spacefm might have to run with pcmanfm for now

Re: gtk free

seamonkey added, am going to go gtk2 for beta release.

Network Manager will be dropped for now, as well as spacefm.

I might change too gtk3 if I can get tint2 gtk2 free.
