[Solved] Slow drawing over ssh

I am new to ArchBang (and ArchLinux) and this is my first post.

I'm wanting to run a lightweight Linux with a gui in a VM with 512MB of RAM for the VM.

The problem I get is this. When I ssh -X to one of my servers (Ubuntu 10.04 and Xubuntu 14.04) and start a gui program (e.g. gvim, firefox, oocalc) it is rather slow to redraw the window, which is particularly noticeable when scrolling. I also get:

Xlib:  extension "RANDR" missing on display "localhost:10.0"

It addition gvim reports:

Unable to register a command server name
Press ENTER or type command to continue

Scrolling locally in the VM is not a problem; it's just over ssh. I also get the same symptoms using Manjaro in a VM, but I don't get it when using heavier distros (Linux Lite, Xubuntu, Netrunner). One thing ArchBang and Manjaro have in common which the heavier distros don't is Openbox.

Can anybody offer me any clues, or better yet, a solution?

Re: [Solved] Slow drawing over ssh

I'm not very familiar with ssh and servers in general, is xorg-xauth package installed? If not install it and retry.
If this doesn't solve it for you try running ssh -Y instead of ssh -X

Re: [Solved] Slow drawing over ssh

xorg-xauth is already installed. However ssh -Y solves the problem. Thank you so much.
