SystemD Free to become harder

This Phoronix thread http://www.phoronix.com/forums/showthre … to=newpost is about the upcoming udev changes that will make life harder for the Gentoo folks who maintain eudev.

I run regular Arch and have seen a lot of nonsense coming into systemd which continues to grow and grow like topsy. Having gone through the transition from initscripts to systemd numerous times my own observation is that the initial claims of faster boots and simpler system administration were just wrong. Instead of shell scripts we have systemd units/services etc etc. It's not simpler and bugs are much harder to discover and fix. I was initially impressed by the idea of on demand event based startup that was promised. Now I have a tangled web of stuff to crawl through to figure out what's happening, why and when.

I tried out a couple of the openrc based isos and they worked pretty good. If eudev goes then probably openrc will vanish as well sad

Slackware, CRUX and a very small derivative distros are systemd-free.
As per KISS principle of Arch, I think I'd start looking at slackware
(it hurts, really hurts, but with Arch sinking into Lennart's sh!t, I'm ready to search new destinations)

I'm not even a 'hater', but I think the "my way or the highway" style of programming is all wrong in the co-operative ecosystem  that linux is part of.

Re: SystemD Free to become harder

After seeing this video I doubt if this is just a matter of a war of programmers, but I think systemd is the perfect  Trojan Horse to put code in Linux that isn't  meant for our well-being but for gaining control of alternative Osses by intelligence agencies.
