Installing Aur packages post install

If you wish to use aur packages there are a few steps you need to perform post install

We need the tools to build packages so install them with [assuming your system is up to date]:

sudo pacman -S --needed base-devel

Now you can build and install either packages from aur or grab one of the helper scripts using aur.sh. The following commands will grab aur.sh script and then run it. Install any required packages from main repos then allow you to install it.

If you are not comfortable with this method then check out aur.sh website or visit aur.sh arch wiki page.

Build and install a package from aur

bash <(curl aur.sh) -si <package_name>

Be aware that any aur package that requires another aur package to allow building must be built first.

Yaourt

bash <(curl aur.sh) -si package-query yaourt

Packer

bash <(curl aur.sh) -si packer

I guess you don't like yaourt.

Re: Installing Aur packages post install

I have always preferred packer, but I was just giving users the option. Also gives more flexibility to use aur if required.

Re: Installing Aur packages post install

same here, I actually prefer packer, I was more used to packer, historically.
Packer's my fav goto for aur. Yaourt tries to be more, I dunno, intuitive, user freindly ?, but that of course depends on the user's preferences.

Re: Installing Aur packages post install

Another clever thing is using aur.sh to update aur packages using

$ pacman -Qqm | xargs bash <(curl aur.sh) -si --needed

Re: Installing Aur packages post install

Maybe you should add  or link to more info about how packer and resemble pacman installations and what is the gain of installing them.

Re: Installing Aur packages post install

Might edit first post as I have not really explained what packer is. My guide was more to show how to install packages from aur.

The way aur.sh works there no real need to ship it with iso, unless users would be more comfortable using it that way. Certainly could add some code to check that base-devel is installed.

I thought packer was not being maintained anymore, has something changed?

Re: Installing Aur packages post install

I'm pretty sure Yaourt does install the required aur pkgs dependencies of an aur pkg, as long as those dependencies exist ?
