Take a seat new Armchair iso

Pleased to announce new Armchair Linux release, am looking for testers and feedback. You can find isos here:

https://sourceforge.net/projects/armchairlinux/

Conky has been in favour of i3status, as yet not sure how far to take bar. Currently displaying Cpu usage volume battery (if present) date and time, network wired will be displayed but wireless is a little more tricky to configure needs work!). At tempted to just run stock i3status with some tweaks for wired network.

New look and a home made wallpaper (aka photo), pcmanfm (for now) and leafpad not really much else.

Pacman should run out of the box, subject to network connection. Added a simple script mirroredit to open pacman.conf in an editor. Anything else missing that a user requires can easily then be installed. That of course includes Arch-Install-Scripts, with a browser and multiple tiled terminals to hand a full Arch install should not really be a problem.

Working on a net installer at the moment, not sure about gpt you would have to manually set up partititons, filesystems and grub/syslinux.

Re: Take a seat new Armchair iso

So I tried out armchair and I'm pretty impressed.

Just for reference, the system I tried it on has the following specs....
processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3800+
ram: 2 G
video: nvidea GE force GT 610 with 2 G of video ram.

After rebooting, armchair came right up.  Nice wallpaper btw, very peaceful makes me want to pull out my sleeping bag and take a nap maybe roast some marshmellows.  Anyhow the status bar worked fine with the right date and time without me having to do anything.  Cpu usage always seemed low no matter what I did, which is believable everything worked smoothly no hangups or waiting.  I don't have wireless with this machine just a straight rj45 connection so I can't really comment on that but I got on the web ok, dwb worked fine.

Pacman worked without any additional configuration.

The only thing that didn't work for me is dmenu.  It would pop up and I could select items but then that was it, it never seemed to start them up.  I tried starting htop and vi but nothing happened.

I'm still playing around with it.  Let you know if I find anything else.

@moravec
if i'not mistaken i think dmenu can only start gui apps and htop and vi both run in a terminal.
I think that's also the reason i3-dmenu-desktop shows only the gtk apps that can be launched...

Thanks xtremyst, you are right.  For some reason I thought it would fork terminal apps as well but that is not the case.

Re: Take a seat new Armchair iso

Nice work on Armchair.  I'm testing it in VM.  I remember playing with Archi3.  If I was to install Armchair to a flashdrive, how do I connect to wifi?  Sorry if I missed a post on this already.  Keep up the good work.

I just found something in /etc/netctl/examples.  Maybe the answer is there.......

Re: Take a seat new Armchair iso

Try

sudo wifi-menu

It should find any wireless devices and allow you to connect to network

Is Armchair an abandoned project now?

Re: Take a seat new Armchair iso

Not so much as abandoned I tend to focus on archbang, brought most of the elements of it to light version less i3 of course.
