MariaDB to replace (Oracles) MySQL

https://www.archlinux.org/news/mariadb- … ositories/

It's the continuing Arch Linux following Fedora saga,..., however,
as most of us may already know "MariaDB", a MySQL fork founded by the original MySQL developers, is designed to be a drop-in replacement for the Oracle-based MySQL Database Server.

The good news is, I'm always very happy for anything that replaces Oracle's-(aka "The Sun/OpenSolaris/OpenOffice Killer") closed-source crap, with much more friendly/open forks, ...

It's very depressing what they did to Sun/Solaris.  The documentation at sun.com and sunsolve used to be stellar, now it's riddled with errors.

Re: MariaDB to replace (Oracles) MySQL

yes, I remember sunsolve, and u're right,
Sun's docs, manual pages,..., were, for the most part, imho, the absolute "reference", when it came to technical documentation's, ... They even made Linux's docs back then, look like a bunch of scribbling-scratch pads.
ahh well sad
- even though Oracle has tried it's best to "kill" OpenSolaris, it's nice to see "open" sun communities still trying to live on: http://openindiana.org/
