Howto install conky control from voyager linux

Conky Control is a very nice config tool for conky that you can find shipped with Voyager Linux, an Xubuntu based distro with  a very beautiful configuration, themes etc. : http://voyager.legtux.org/
See conky control in action here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XelYd66FE0s from 1:45
You need to have conky-lua installed: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=31589

$packer -S conky-lua

You can download the conky scripts here: http://ompldr.org/vZWoxMA
Put the extracted Conky folder in /home/username/.scripts
Backup your old folder/home/user/.conky.
Download the second folder (.conky)  from here and extract it and put it in /home/user/
http://ompldr.org/vZWoxYg

Create a symbolic link (adapt username):

$sudo ln -s  /home/paul/.scripts/Conky/conky /usr/bin/conkycontrol

Now all you have to do is create a menu item in your OB menu or/and a keyboard shortcut to rc.xml
Menu, place it under:

<menu id="preferences" label="Preferences">

like this

<item label="Conkycontrol">
				<action name="Execute">
					<execute>
						conkycontrol
					</execute>
				</action>
			</item>

In /home/user/.config/openbox/rc.xml you could make this keybinding Super +l

<keybind key="W-l">
      <action name="Execute">
        <command>conkycontrol</command>
        <startupnotify>
          <enabled>yes</enabled>
          <name>Conky Control</name>
        </startupnotify>
      </action>
    </keybind>

The present set up is made for a temporary live session conky config and no configurations are possible that survive a reboot.
Conky is first defined in /home/user/.conkyrc
If that is not defined, conky is using /etc/conky/conky.conf systemwide.
If you want to keep a certain set up, you can resize it, edit fonts or images or other parts of the configuration files that are found in .conky and you can copy and save it to a /home/user/.conkyrc file.

In the ConkyUbuntu in folder conky20 you can replace the Ubuntu image with this one:

If you have trouble getting ConkyCircle, option 14 right, look at this post here below: http://bbs.archbang.org/viewtopic.php?pid=16237#p16237

Re: Howto install conky control from voyager linux

Got very little reaction to this.
A bit of a shame as this is a very nice way to test a lot of fine conky script without too much effort and time.

Re: Howto install conky control from voyager linux

@pablokal
I am looking for a solution to a problem I have on Voyager linux with conky_cercle.
The lua clock hands disappear and the hdd usage is missing the lua circle.

The Voyager admin suggested;

sudo leafpad ~/.conky/conky14/ConkyCercle

Change own_window by :

own_window yes
own_window_argb_value 100
own_window_argb_visual yes
own_window_class Conky
own_window_hints undecorated,below,sticky,skip_taskbar,skip_pager
own_window_transparent yes
own_window_type normal

but this does not fix the problem.

Any ideas as to what I could try?

Re: Howto install conky control from voyager linux

I don't have this problem:
yjtZC.png

Here as it is in voyager:
SnYbO.png

I remember that I had to get the conky rings form somewhere else.
Details follow.
Ah, I found it; the location of the clock_rings.lua and bkgrd.png wasn't well defined;
See what I changed:

# — Lua Load — #
	lua_load ~/.conky/conky14/conky/clock_rings.lua
	lua_draw_hook_pre clock_rings

${image ~/.conky/conky14/conky/conky_bg.png -p -5,-1}

Conky-all-gray does not look any better than ArchBang one?

Re: Howto install conky control from voyager linux

Well, I don't agree; although the looks are quite basic and it is one of the more minimalist set ups of conky control, it gives just a little bit more info on different levels and some nice details in looks.
Systeme line
Processeur line with graph
Memoire line
Processus line
Reseau line
How much you have up and downloaded.
As a whole I like it more in layout and  composition;although the differences are subtle I agree.
And also these things are very subjective. To explain how subjective in  my case:
I myself never use a dynamic conky for instance; but as shiny detail, a bit of bling,  a nice conky can set a nice accent in a distro.
The perfection lies in the details.

@pablokal
Thank you for the conky-cercle tip...but I still have the same problem.
No big deal as I am now playing with the latest Archbang release - excellent work!

Have you thought of  installing conky-lua?

Re: Howto install conky control from voyager linux

@pablokal
Good point but there again other lua conkys on Voyager are working OK.
I might look at upgrading/re-installing conky-lua when I am back at my Voyager machine.
