HP Dv4t wireless problems

I just installed and I am having problems getting the wireless radio on.  My network manager says that there is firmwire missing but I do not know how to install the firmwire.  I am coming from ubuntu.  here is my lspci -vv

so I tried

sudo pacman -s wireless_tools

and got this back

  if you're sure a package manager is not already

a bug report I found said running sudo pacman -Syy would fix it but I got this in return

For pacman error if you have a working connection.... then

sudo rm /var/lib/pacman/db.lck

To get pacman working in the mean time you may need to use a ethernet connection or chroot in via live cd or or other linux install.

I have a working ethernet connection but no wireless connection.  That is the problem and I'm struggling with the firmwire installation

So now I am on to installing from the AUR with this link. Ive downloaded the tarball and extracted it but when I try and makepkg or makepkg -s I get this.

[djyoung4@archbang broadcom-wl]$ makepkg -s
cat: /lib/modules/extramodules-3.3-ARCH/version: No such file or directory
==> ERROR: An unknown error has occurred. Exiting...
User defined signal 1

I have tried to create the directory but it returns and error similar but saying directory exists.  weird.
any ideas greatly appreciated
