Has anyone who has run both ArchBang and Arch+OB noticed any significant differences between the two? RAM usage? RAM at startup? RAM idling? Slight speed differences? I would think any differences would be so small but then again I could be wrong. Grateful for any shared observations.
GUI's?? We don't need no stinkin' GUI's!!!

I've run both. No noticeable differences between the two methods. I just prefer the ease of starting with archbang and then adjusting afterwards to suite my needs instead of having to build everything else up myself from scratch. I've gotten lazier as I get older.

Thanks for the info! That's basically what I thought. I'll spend that two hours that I was going to use to build Arch + OB and put it towards building Crux.

Crux escaped my attention; but after reading you have to compile everything yourself I probably dismissed it before for that reason. But I understand it is great for old hardware: https://kmandla.wordpress.com/2011/03/2 … rux-again/

I built an Arch (2011.10.14) + OB earlier this morning with all the packages that I have in ArchBang and the difference is Arch+OB is around uses around 1MB of RAM less. So as nemesis2all said

there really seems to be no advantage to building your Arch + OB other than building your Arch system and saving 1 MB of RAM. ArchBang saves you time and probably some grief for most new users.
@ pablokal I want to try Crux because I'm looking at different light weight systems now. I want to do something with my LFS (I just updated everything) I'm thinking of going with pacman for my package management system but I'm looking at other options. Thanks for the link!!

Thanks!! Yes LFS is Linux From Scratch. I forgot that some people new to Linux might be reading and not know what the abbreviation was for or know that you can create your own OS from scratch. I'm going to run Crux in VirtualBox first to get a feel for it and then maybe run it in one of the spare pre-set partitions I have in my netbook.
