I just installed ArchBang 2011.10 with Nightly 10.0a1 (2011-09-30) as the default browser. It periodically alerts for an update which I then select to install, but it never shows up in the "Update History" tab of the "Advanced" preferences window.
Also, the version never changes in the "About Nightly" window of the "Help" menu.
Is there a fix for this in about:config?

per AUR, the last (Arch) update to this came on September 29th so as far as pacman is concerned you're up to date. This doesn't help you when you have FF telling you to update :-)
I'd love to hear what others think but IMO you have a couple of options
1) disable the check that goes out (edit > preferences > advanced > update) and wait for a pacman update
2) uninstall the pacman version, install your own and treat FF like it's own rolling release
I think the reason the update fails outside of pacman is that it's installed as root but launched as a user so your permissions are stopping it from updating. I guess a third option would be to launch it as root and let it update that way
Hasta manana, monsieur

Option 3 sounds risky. Option 2 looks like the best long term solution.
Thanks Oliver.

I built firefox-nightly from aur, uninstalled the one installed during the installation then re-installed it using
sudo pacman -U firefox-nightly-10.0a1-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xzFirefox-nightly still won't update when running it as my user. When I run it as root it updates fine. Do I need to change any permissions?

Minefileld updates now. Apparently that is the only way to do it as user.
I never would have thought of using it if it hadn't been part of the installaton.
I'm surprised that no one else has commented on this since it surely must happen to everyone who installs the latest release of ArchBang.
Maybe there could be a script that uninstalls it then downloads the latest nightly to the ~/ folder, activated from the menu.

Hope Will notices this; I mark this thread as solved.
