First by update did you (# pacman -Syu) your archbang install. Meaning update all download mirrors & packages, if not do that and try again.

Indeed I did, I updated pacman itself first, then I did a system update. I do not understand why I still get the error on the top of the command line but I do not know if it is affecting Calibre.

Any help is still appreciated.

If anyone can help me start somewhere to get this fixed I would greatly appreciate it.

The info I posted was in reference to your pacman data base problem, not your JAVA problem.;-)

For others, in addition to what others have posted, if there should be a bug or other involving the
open source JAVA, (JRE and JDK). Sometimes installing the Sun JRE and JDK packages that are in AUR can help.
Uninstall the existing installed packages first though.;-)
Down grading as others have mentioned earlier should be the first recourse to resolve the problem,
and should that fail, will try other avenues by installing appropriate packages from AUR
using the "packer" package manager.

Thank you smile I will try it next time.

Thanks to both of you, I think this problem is very unique to me only because without doing either of your suggestions, my IcedTea is working again and i have no idea why or why not.

Seems like just randomly it will stop working and even if i restart it will not make a difference and then it just randomly starts working again. Does anyone know why? I will not downgrade for now and save it for next time it stops working but I would greatly aprpeciate it if someone could help me.

UPDATE: It has seemed to have fixed itself by restarting this is really weird. Just incase for next time anyone know why it happened or what I can do next time it happens?

Hi everyone, before i state the problem I want to thank everyone in advance for helping me smile

Ok so, ever since 2 days ago my Java stopped working when trying to load a in browser game client. (runescape if you have heard of it)

It would load the game and get updates for the game but the client would never load and if I try and refresh enough I would get "Plugin IcedTea-Web has crashed" I tried to re-install it through pacman but I would get the following error message.

"[michael@michael ~]$ sudo pacman -S openjdk6
resolving dependencies...
looking for inter-conflicts...
:: openjdk6 and jdk7-openjdk are in conflict (java-environment). Remove jdk7-openjdk? [y/N] y
:: openjdk6 and jre7-openjdk are in conflict (java-runtime). Remove jre7-openjdk? [y/N] y
error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)"

So Then I tried to re-install each dependency individually I got more errors.

Then an admin posted on another thread that my friend had made on my behalf telling me to type in "$ pacman -Rns jdk7-openjdk"

Which then I got, "error: you cannot perform this operation unless you are root."

and now when I try and re-install Icedtea-web I get the following:

"[michael@michael ~]$ sudo pacman -S icedtea-web
error: failed to init transaction (unable to lock database)
  if you're sure a package manager is not already
  running, you can remove /var/lib/pacman/db.lck"

Any help will be appreciated on what to do next, Thank you.
