Can you post your bumblebee.conf?
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Bu … 2F_nouveau
Read the wiki!
No where does it say to install 'nouveau-firmware'
I personally use the Nvidia setup, but like I said before, READ the whole wiki page.
I have an RC-512 and use bumblebee all the time. Don't forget to get bbswitch https://github.com/Bumblebee-Project/bbswitch as well, it can also be found in the AUR. I never game and run only linux so I just have it switched off all the time. Keeps temps way down. If you run into issue, just post them here, I'll help all I can
.
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Bumblebee <-- read that through a few times.
Also you shouldn't ever need to reinstall, just boot up a live disc/USB and chroot.
Cheers.
Thanks for the link, but I would be interested in using it on my Momo 11 Bird tablet.
Sorry, ![]()
I'm also a nano guy on the terminal. Very simple, get's the job done, has some cool .nanorc's for a few extras (like syntax highlighting). Other than that, Eclipse, SciTE, and Leafpad are my most used. I'm looking into Geany because Eclipse is rather bloated and slow, but I won't be able to totally drop Eclipse because of Android development.
Starting to sound like a broken record here....
Eclim + vim FTW
I have been using JellyBean that is completely functional on my LTE nexus. Its a hack job off of the GSM version that was released at I/O but it is running very well. Big step in Android if you ask me. We have it up on our forum, just follow the link. ![]()
This is for a CDMA device, if you need a GSM version please let me know. Also this is for a rooted Nexus.
No nano people???

I tried awesome for a while and really liked it - enough to consider switching, but the java support killed me. My work has tons of java apps that are the only way to interact with some of our databases.
FWIW, it's not an 'awesome' problem but a longtime java bug that can be worked around for some apps - but others just didn't play nicely enough to justify a move for me.
I enjoyed seeing your desktop!
I had to use NetBeans for a class and had this issue, I added 'export _JAVA_AWT_WM_NONREPARENTING=1' to my .xinitrc and I no longer recieved an empty grey screen after loading. Not saying that is a cure all but it worked for me. Regardless it's the beauty of Arch, it is whatever you want it to be. Choice is it's best feature. ![]()
Also I just realized this is an open box thread. Sorry bout that.
Sorry for any confusion. I was mainly just showing off my awesome config and current desktop iteration. I blended quite a few things together and after finally getting it working thought I had thrown together a neat compilation.
Maybe I will see what I can do with GIMP (first time for everything right?) to make the wallpaper more Archbang like.
edit: Is this better?

Well if you've been using emacs for that amount of time there will be no convincing you. ![]()
I agree with Doug - it's always just 'worked' for me when using the packages. It is a little bit of a pain because you can't use the Android SDK Manager to update things, because the permissions are more restrictive. But the packages are updated fairly quickly.
The packages I have installed are:
$ pacman -Q |grep android android-2.2 r03-2 android-2.3 r02-2 android-3.0 r02-1 android-4.0 r03-4 android-google-apis-10 2.3.3_r02-1 android-google-apis-11 3.0_r01-1 android-ndk r8-1 android-platform-10 2.3.3_r02-2 android-platform-11 3.0_r02-2 android-sdk r18-1 android-sdk-platform-tools r11-2 android-udev 1.1-1 eclipse-android 18.0.0-2 emacs-android-git 20091205-1
I see you have emacs-android... Have you tried vim + eclim?
Depending on the Android device(using ics) It should only be using mtpfs, which at the moment is very slow(if working at all). I highly suggest for Android using adb. I know this doesn't help with USB sticks but at least it one off the list. I use adb push/pull/logcat many times a day, everyday.
I know this is an older thread but I've always just enabled multilib and ran 'packer -S android-sdk android-sdk-platform-tools android-udev'. I am very much into Android myself and have never had an issue
You could also install the needed eclipse plugins from the AUR.
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=14544
In the case of a major update (meaning a long time in between) I can see your point being very valid. As I update daily, sometimes multiple times a day, my updates are small and tracking something down is quite simple.
Just difference in opinion. Thanks for answering.
I run pacman -Syu on a regular basis, only using packer to install AUR packages or to update AUR packages...
Aur packages tend not to be updated so often
But why not just run "packer -Syyu"? It does the same exact thing but without having to query AUR without a seperate command. Currently I only use "pacman" to remove packages.
Forgive my pointing out the obvious but do your function keys not work?
I(and not packer -Syyu!!)
Curious on as to why you would say this. I use packer -Syyu constantly as I update daily. Been doing this for over a year now and have no real issues.
I will. Installing "Arch" was very good for a learning experience but it is basically the same setup that I used on while on bang. Though if ArchBang could incorporate the "net install" it would be pretty dang awesome. It was nice to finish install and pacman -Syyu was empty. ![]()
http://bbs.archbang.org/viewtopic.php?pid=10765#p10765
Update all cairo packages listed, then pacman -Syu
I think to intall banshee pacman -S banshee
Boot time is insanely quick. I did get to learn a great deal more in doing a "real" Arch install though. That's all I wanted to do.
Received my new SSD and decided it was time to move onto Arch. On my last installed I thought I was spending more time removing packages from bang that I didn't use then it would take me to install Arch. Well I was wrong in that aspect but I have it fully working now. Took me the better part of this morning. I don't think I could have done it if not from my learnings while using bang. (I know learnings isn't a real word). So thanks for making such a great distro and having such a user friendly forum for me to learn from.
I personally blacklist it in /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf
blacklist pcspkr
blacklist snd_pcspI found Aurora very slow as well. Installed Chormium and though a bit fatter it works well for me.
The first error will go away once you've fully upgraded. The second error is you need to comment out "ShowSize" in the options section of you /etc/pacman.conf
More and more "newbs" are installing it and there isnt much we can do about that. One thing we can do is not promote "hand-holding". Do the release every 6mons and if the user can't figure out how to succesfully upgrade then maybe this isn't the distro for them. ArchBang is already almost to easy to install for an Arch system and I think adding more will only cause users to not read wiki's, forum posts and use some Googlefu. I still consider myself a "newb" but enjoy the inner workings that ArchBnag has allowed me to learn. There are days where I find myself just clicking the random button on both the Arch and ArchBang wikis.
On this last install I removed about 90% of what bang comes with preinstalled so I'd say its about time I move on to regular old Arch but the knowledged I gained while on Bang has been very useful. If I boot and it dumps my into a shell I no longer have the panic attack that once consumed me.
I respect what distrohopperarched is trying to do and maybe just posting the script on the forum will suffice but I do not think it should be apart of the release.
Jeez

Looked at your Arch blog, nice to see another android guy move to arch ![]()
doug piston wrote:Possibly Gnome or KDE.
The whole idea behind arch is to make your system yours.Look, I bought this laptop with SUSE+Gnome pre-installed that was too heavy and slow for this machine. Now I have the system which is 3 or 4 times faster, that is why I stuck with Archbang. It was not random choice. And I tried out half a dozen distros just to find out what would fit me best. And I've fast and quite well-balanced system to the extent I could reach this goal. Now I'm ready to sacrifice 10% of the overall performance to make it fancier and handy. But I am not ready to loose 70% of the performance to get the system overloaded with a stuff, most of which I will never use. In fact I use a CLI extensively when I do something with the system. But when I use my laptop simply as a tool, I'd prefer to have a clear and user-friendly interface which would allow me to stay fully concentrated on the task being performed. And yes, what I try to achieve is to make my system mine! Good point, thank you.
Wasn't trying to rub you the wrong way. I actually really liked gnome3. Was just a suggestions. Apologies.
@kanyck: If you really need a dock like launcher I recommend adeskbar: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=26910 ; it 's great, relatively lightweight and is very configurable.
Anyway I keep repeating: in terms of easy of use: alt+f3, type one or two letters and enter (that is using dmenu) and launched, that is so easy and fast.
I couldn't ask for anything more.
Or another DE all together. Possibly Gnome or KDE. I've used both and seem to be exactly what you are looking for. The whole idea behind arch is to make your system yours. Just because Archbang comes with OpenBox does not mean you have to use it.
It could be cairo-ubuntu free as it could be an older installation and possibly removed it or if I remember correctly the ubuntu font was not implemented until this latest iso.
After the cairo-ubuntu fiasco might I suggest using a default font that IS NOT from the AUR. If the user would like to change to it that is fine, but I think for simplicity of post install upgrades using programs from the "main" repos (community, core, etc, etc) would cut down on many foreseeable errors
I am a little biased but suggest
community/terminus-font 4.36-1 [installed]
A superb, monospace bitmap font (for X11 and console)handy app launcher or another convenience stuff.
Is dmenu or some key bindings no quick enough? I don't use openbox but I seem to remember you could right click to open a menu and pick your app.
Here is mine. The look is all from searching these forums, so if you see your work thank you for posting your configs.
Clean (but busy in the background)
Dirty
Nice to see another Android builder here. ![]()
One thing I can say about this system, if you have something important back it up to another place then just the PC. You just never know.
With the way the Arch devs are releasing stuff these days I fear the only way to keep up is to put out an ISO monthly, that just seem very feasible.
I just did a fresh install from the 11.2011 ISO. I had none of the issues I keep reading about with getting it to install. I have used AB exclusively now for almost a year so I would say I am not an expert. I just installed it, modified my mirrorlist and rc.conf then ran packer -Syyu. There were errors from pacman of course but it basically told me exactly what to do. Upgraded pacman, and had to remove one file(can't remeber ATM) and then the upgrade went flawlessly.
I keep reading about upgrade issues on fresh installs and work arounds for them, am I missing something?
Worked perfectly. Marking as solved. Thank you.
Thank you for that. I have the BIOS set to integrated so I should not be using the ATI side.
Apparently I am to newbish for this but would love to learn.

So far I've gathered to set the gpu to "intel" and remove the "nomodeset" from the grub kernel line.
If you have and suggestions for a newb or need more info please ask and I will provide it. Though I think I have listed everything needed.
Cheers and thank you for the help.
I thought I had, I will re-read the wiki and start over.
I had thie issue on my old HP dv2550se and thought not much of it. I just purchased a Lenovo ThinkPad T400 and did a fresh install last night. Artifacts are still present. Its the whole bottom have the screen, when I boot/reboot it will show what was present during my last session but just on the bottom have of the screen. Anyone else experience this and have a possible solution?
Screenfetch is also a great version. It is found in the AUR
To remove the pre-packaged firefox
pacman -R firefox-auroraThen simply install another browser of your choice.
As for the menus I don't use OB so I don't know the answer to that. Sorry.
I like that it uses Wicd. Would love for ArchBang to go back to it. NetworkManager-cli is a mess.
TMK that '"beep" is the internal PC speaker, meaning BIOS speaker <-- I think. And I don't believe there is a way to change that sound that comes from it as it is controlled by the BIOS.
Please correct me if I am wrong.
Sure, I did a fresh install over the weekendand noticed that the machines boots quickly but when I get to the login screen when I was using slim it would hang before I could input my username and password. I then removed slim and just boot to a terminal and type "startx" to boot my WM. The hang still persists, so must not have been a slim issue.
I noticed that once my wifi led turned blue i was able to input my username and password. The ata error I am sometimes seeing at udev launch was me thinking they might be related but I probably should have left that out of this conversation as to not confuse the situation any more.
So cliffnotes
I see prompt to login, the lag is I cannot type anything for 30 secs.
Its my laptop, so strictly WiFi. I will background both and report back.
Edit:
Same result. I did notice I had rc.conf.pacnew wheich didn't inslude a udev timeout=30 So i upgraded to the new rc.conf as well.

Substitute lxdm for slim.

Why not just "startx"?
Does anyone read the update warnings ?!!!
see http://bbs.archbang.org/viewtopic.php?id=2231
Regrettably I upgraded before said warnings, but trust me lesson learned.

I enable community testing in /etc/pacman.conf and did a full system upgrade then ran
pacman -Qs cairoAnd reinstalled all packages listed. PcmanFM and aurora worked as intended after.
Cheers.
I was dealing with these all morning and had I read the news like a normal/rational user should I could have solved my problem in 5 mins.
sudo packer -S cairo-ubuntu python2-cairoBasically any GUI that used ubuntu font was no longer functional. I don't use the font except in PcManFm and Aurora so it never even crossed my mind.
Just an heads up, hope it helps one of you.

Just for my own morbid curiosity I decided to remove sLim. Terminal login takes just as long. So seems slim is not the culprit.
I just installed a SSD and did a fresh install of AB. I spend about 90% of my boot time looking at slim just waiting to input my user name. I changed it so that it'll auto-populate the username field but then I get to wait just so I can press enter. Anyone else experience this or have a possible solution?
Cheers.
I had this issues as well but though nothing of it, basically saw it as one less step for me. Regardless I figured I should change it and rm'd the g_wheel. Now I can't shut down. o.O Oops. So it seems lennie's method is the best. So i guess I will recreate the the g_wheel when I get home this evening. ![]()
I use 10.04 on my desktop that has been semi-convert to do only Android stuff.
2.6.32-37-preempt-bfs
Seemed to help with build times. Android AOSP + Arch do not play so nice.

Here is a gem for using nano with a colored syntax for .config files. I stumbled across it yesterday and works very well.

I remember the firefox-aurora part. So I'll start with that. Thank you very much. ![]()

[jarvis@watson ~]$ cat .xinitrc
exec ck-launch-session dbus-launch openbox-sessionThanks in advance.
